It’s days like this that I really miss my Cabrio.
The sun is shining, which means it’s not raining (toward the end of her life, the Cab’s windshield wipers were non-functional).
It’s warm, but not exactly hot (I don’t think I had AC in the Cab since 2001).
And snow season is over, so there would be no need to wash her (the Cab actually died when she was taken through a car wash).
Sure, she had her quirks, but I loved that little box on wheels. So many of my memories are in that car. Driving around Gainesville with Tina—just for the sake of driving. Making the trip back from college with my brother, Mike. Coming out of Lorrie’s house to find my sweet car covered in eggs and beer (damn you, senior girls).
And, of course, my routine drive-bys past so many boys’ houses in high school. Call it stalking, I don’t care. I know you all did it, too. And who could blame me? That car was so stinkin’ adorable.
I just hope some other teenage girl is driving it now, cruising around listening to “Strawberry Wine”, laughing with her friends and her hair blowing in the wind. With summer just around the corner, I can’t think of anything more perfect.
